Women’s court continues to gather women survivors of war crimes from the countries in the region

In continuation of the women’s court process, women survivors of war crimes from the countries of Former Yugoslav Republic meet for three days in Skopje, Macedonia.

The first women’s court in Europe was held in Sarajevo during May 2015 to gather testimonies of women survivors of crimes and handle the process with feminist access to justice.

Over 30 women from Kosovo, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia and Croatia spent 3 days in Skopje to share and discuss the impact of the women’s court process and the results produced in promotion of feminist approach to justice. Special attention is given to the survivors from Kosovo and other countries in the region and their need for a feminist documentation of rape as a war crime.

Three women actually receiving support from Medica Kosova and two staff members attended this meeting organized by Women in Black from Belgrade as project holder of the women’s court program with the support of other organizations from Kosovo, Bosnia, Croatia and Montenegro.

Emotional sharing, discussing views from the survivor’s perspective of access to justice and solidarity building among women from these countries were the key outcomes of this event.
